Session Title: Competitive Research Funding Landscape: EU Opportunities and a roadmap for a competitive research proposal.
Session Scope: This session aims to inform potential applicants about different EU funding opportunities with particular focus on Horizon Europe Program. Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding program and the world’s largest research and innovation program, with a budget of 95.5 billion euros. This session will present a general overview of the Horizon Europe program, followed by a more specific focus on opportunities for young researchers under MSCA program. MSCA includes funding for career development, researchers’ mobility, doctoral programs, doctoral networks and staff exchange. The session will also offer practical tips on how to develop a successful proposal and will provide information on where to find support.
Speaker: Dr. Amr Radwan, EU-Egypt National Contact Point for Health and MSCA Horizon Europe
Amr Radwan is a pharmacologist and development practitioner with industrial expertise. He leads the regional office of the Arab-German Academy of Sciences & has worked as a researcher and consultant with several institutions in Brussels, Lisbon, Berlin and Rome.
He is also a seasoned researcher in the field of science policy and innovation management and has co-authored several regional strategies & roadmaps. He worked as a supervisor of research and innovation at ASRT, where he also supervised national funding programs.
He has been an evaluator for many EU programs & has coordinated 7 international research projects & partnered in more than 25 UN-and EU-funded projects.
He co-founded several regional funding programs and served on several strategic committees, including the Cyprus government Task Force on Green Economy & Innovation, EU Partnership for Health (Era4health), EU JPI in antimicrobial resistance & he is currently the Contact Point for the European Innovation Council. He holds a PhD in Pharmacology, MBA and Diplomas in Investment Management and Intellectual Property Rights.
