Epilepsy unit is the oldest unit in Neurology department, Ain Shams University, working continuously since 1991.

Our mission is to provide care to people affected by epilepsy by promoting public awareness and education, by undertaking research and by delivering specialist medical care and support services.
Our vision is a full life for everyone affected by epilepsy. We want everyone affected by epilepsy to have the best opportunity for a full life as free from seizures as possible.
Education
Clinical Services
• Emergency epilepsy management including cases of refractory and super refractory status epilepticus with a state of art protocol 24/7.
• Out-patient epilepsy clinic providing service to hundreds of patients monthly including financially supported antiepileptic medications.
• EEG services including routine EEG, prolonged and sleep EEG, portable EEG and polysomnography in both El Demerdash and Ain Shams University Specialized hospitals.
• Continuous research projects in epilepsy.
• Regular scientific meetings provided by expert staff to teach those who interests in epilepsy the state of art of diagnosis and management.
• Continuous collaboration with other departments such as Neurosurgery department and radiology department to introduce other modalities of epilepsy treatment such as epilepsy surgery and vagal nerve stimulation.

Our unit has a registry of more than 500 epileptic patients including their full epidemiological, clinical, neurophysiologic and imaging data with the intent to share this data with its implications with the relevant national and international collaborations.
